Leaving Etsy

This has been coming for a long time: We have talked about leaving Etsy for years now, but couldn’t really find a suitable replacement for the platform that we have used for over a decade. Etsy held a special place in our hearts, probably because we kept that first concept in our minds: The concept of a place where any person who could access a computer could easily post and sell their handmade products–no matter how quirky they were. We were attracted to the idea of freedom of expression, we loved the camaraderie between Etsy sellers, and we learned so much just talking to other makers and seeing the ideas of others become real. (And it was so exciting to see our products online!)

But those ideas are not unique to Etsy. Etsy was just a wonderful platform that championed the “little guy” and made it easy to just be creative and sell without having to prove oneself to an arbitrary judge before the public got to see what was offered.

We were always free to express ourselves in quirky ways.

We were always able to make friends with like-minded individuals.

We were always able to appreciate other makers’ unique ideas, to support others, and to learn from them.

Things are a little different now: The last thing that I want to do is complain about a platform that offered so much encouragement to us, and was so pivotal in our artistic and entrepreneurial development! So we will just leave it at that. Things are different now. And that is all we have to say on the matter.

And to our true friends who told us about their reasons for thinking we needed to move off Etsy, we apologize. You were right, and we should have listened. Much love.

I don’t exactly know how our new situation for selling online will work out, but we are going to be closing our Etsy shops this week. We still have a ton of things to sell, so I hope you’ll be flexible with us as we get used to our new situation. We always want to honor the Lord, and we will be relying on Him for guidance as we navigate a new path.

For now, this blog will let you know what we are making and selling, and how to find our products. Thank you for being patient over the next few weeks, and thank you for all you have done to support us!

And Etsy, Thank You. It was awesome.
