Once in a Lunar Eclipse

It has been a little over a month since our last post: A lot has been happening, and I wanted to pop in to update. Since we had a total lunar eclipse, and since it happened during a full moon, on election day, I figured that the rarity of all of those things happening at the same time roughly matches the rarity of our posts, and is therefore worth a mention here.

The full moon on November 7, 2022, right before the total lunar eclipse.

We love to watch the skies, so every time there is something going on, you can find us out in a field somewhere, looking up. What on earth does watching the moon have to do with making wooden bowls, engraving glass, writing comics or narrating audio books, you ask?

Being in nature and absorbing the beauty of creation is a way of worshiping the Lord of creation. The Lord is the one who fills us with inspiration–literally, we breathe in His spirit. All of our good ideas come from God, and in this hectic world, it’s good to get outside and remember just Who He is by considering the work of His hands. It’s a good time to remember who we are in relationship to Him as well. He loves us so much!

Unfortunately, November the 8th was a cloudy night here, so we struggled to see it. At the point of totality, I couldn’t even see where to point the camera, but thank goodness Beau was able to find it and get these pictures. The moon was a dull red, and was blocked by clouds.

For reference, I took the following photo when the clouds had passed two days later:

It is glorious, isn’t it? Every time I look at the full moon, and I see those tiny bright spots on the surface, I imagine little lunar villages full of moon people. Only their world isn’t cold, sterile and airless; instead, it’s warm and sparkling, and the ground feels comfortable, like a pillow. Maybe I’m on the way toward writing a children’s story, but anyway, I love to look at the full moon. Feels so close, like I can reach out and touch it!

And here’s a Fuller’s Four tie-in: Tony has finished the packaging for his most recent audio book, “The Princess and the Goblin,” by George McDonald. You can listen to a sample here. The moon plays a part in that story, too. So much so, that Tony paid tribute on the packaging.

The Princess and the Goblin audiobook. Vintage cover art by Jessie Wilcox Smith.
The back of the audio book enclosure is a thread that winds around a full moon.

This 5 CD set contains the entire novel, unabridged. It would make a lovely Christmas present for the young person (or the imaginative older person) in your life.

Supplies are limited, of course, because Tony makes each one of these entirely by hand. If you are interested in purchasing one, you can order one at info@thefullersfour.com. For local customers, we can arrange an in-person purchase. The 5-CD set is $25.

This hasn’t been much of an update, and there is so much to tell, so I will have to follow up soon in another post. Thanks for hanging in there with us!
