The Power of the Eyelid

I believe that one of the greatest gifts that God gave us is the eyelid. There is incredible power in that little flap of skin. It is a shield, right? It protect our eyes from dust, dryness, accidental sprays of hydrochloric acid. . .yeah, don’t ask. Eyelids are very helpful in those kinds of situations.

Vision is pretty important when you are trying to get around in the world, but maybe it does even more than we realize. Our visual information travels over thirty different pathways through the brain, and it is processed before we are even consciously aware of what we see. What is happening?

One interesting connection that our visual system has to our conscious awareness is the ability to control the perception of some of what we hear. When we hear a “fuzzy” sound, the words that we see at the same time will direct our mind’s interpretation of that sound so that we hear the sound that is described by the words we are reading. Check out this short from YouTube that illustrates that fact:

In other words, printed words can override what we actually hear so that the sound matches the printed words. In the above video, the sound doesn’t change when you close your eyes. You only perceive a change when you read a different line while listening. Makes you think twice about all of those subtitles, doesn’t it?

Many times we become flooded with stimuli we don’t want to see or hear. We are subject to it in the grocery store, the gas station, restaurants, etc. Screens showering us with images, sounds and music seem to be everywhere. It’s programming, y’all.

This is a form of mind control. Advertisements do it all the time. Do they really play that same ad thirty times a day because they think we are going to miss something? No, it’s because they are trying to overcome our buyer’s resistance by changing our belief system about the product, without us being aware, through repetition. And it works.

Back to the eyelid. It is a shield that protects our eyes from contamination and injury, but it also has the magic ability to provide that same protection for our minds. The simple act of closing your eyes can stop contamination and injury to your mind.

Refuse to consume something that you know is a lie. See it for what it is–an attempt to exchange your true belief with a changeling.

So I am writing to inform you of the superpower in your eyelids. Exercise your right to privacy, decency, solitude, or, dare I suggest, holiness? Your mind belongs to you and you can use it to create solace for yourself by filling it with things that bring you peace. Wage war with your eyelids! Shields up! (Or down, I should say.)

As a side note, you can also protect someone else’s privacy with your eyelids. We see lots of skin that is inappropriately-bared in our public media these days. We also see it on the street, and published in school books. Much of the pornography available today uses people who are being trafficked. Maybe you believe that you can’t do anything to stop it, but you’re wrong. Healing starts when you don’t consume it.

Please go see Sound of Freedom while it is still in theaters for a few more days. It’s important. This is one of those things that may be difficult to acknowledge, but if we don’t, the evil continues to grow. Check out the audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes: 99%!

You can close your eyes (or close your browser) and provide a cloak of privacy for that person, at least as far as you are concerned. It’s one less victimization for that person, and one less lustful thought for you. Use the rampant display to develop self-awareness and self-control.

Do you have what it takes to NOT STEAL someone’s dignity while protecting yourself at the same time? Sure you do! Start today by using the power of the eyelid. Your are the only one who can do this: Protect your eyes, protect your mind, and guard your heart.

“Guard your heart with all possible vigilance, for from it flow the wellsprings of life.” Proverbs 4:23
