Surly Sunrise

I don’t know about you, but I have been missing the sun. Yesterday was a rare winter’s day, with partly cloudy skies and much warmer temperatures, but I was inside most of the day and missed it.

It was a missed opportunity, and so many times I miss things because I mistake the “urgent” for the “important.” It may not be urgent for me to spend a few minutes in the sun, but it’s definitely important.

So this morning, I was looking at the sky. It was dark, but wow! What a treat!

This morning’s moon in the dreamy clouds!
See the color in the clouds?

The moon was so beautiful this morning. The clouds were really moving, and the scene changed so fast that it was hard to get a picture. (Plus our lovely community cats were climbing up my legs to be held!).

I focused on the moon, but the clouds were passing so quickly!
Finally a clear shot!

A little later this morning, Beau pointed out the sky. We went out and spent a few breathless moments just watching.

The sun was rising, but as it rose, a dark cloud approached, as if to snuff out the sunrise. Good luck with that!

But to our eyes, the sun can be overwhelmed by the clouds. Still, the scene was spectacular this morning!

Earlier this week, we went for an impromptu drive, in the fog. As we drove it was so cloudy and almost ominous-looking. But then, we saw this:

The sun broke through like a spotlight!

Many times, the Holy Spirit will lead us to do something that doesn’t make sense (like go for a drive in the fog), but there is a purpose, and He will send encouragement, so we know we should continue. I was feeling confused about why I wanted to drive out in the fog, but when we saw the light, we were glad we had gone, and kept going.

God used the sky to encourage us. We WERE being sent: Little did we know that someone we love was stranded an hour down the road! We were just in time and were on the scene in minutes. God did it, and I just want to praise Him!

I am so inspired by the sky, by the sun and moon, and by nature in general. All of it is true to our God, and reflects His loving hand. God teaches us Who He is when we pay attention. He provides for us, and He uses us to provide for others, often at the same time.

What a joy it is to be in this wonderful family of God! Be encouraged, and be watchful: It may be your turn next. Who knows what adventure awaits you?
