A New Place

When we walked at the park this past Sunday, as is our custom, everything seemed sharper and brighter. They say, “You don’t know what you’ve got, until it’s gone,” and we are all anticipating that right now.

Sergeant Purdy was calmly keeping order when we arrived. After a quick, but kind, reprimand to a troop regarding his attire, they all continued toward base.
(No, Sgt. Purdy does not have three legs. There is a trooper behind him.)

But before they could get there, someone raised the alarm!

Somebody knows just what to say to turn an emergency into comedy. I couldn’t quite hear what he said, but the lack of concern on the faces of the other troops shows the damage was already done.

“Wise-crackin’ McQuacken” is the gray and white goose in the front with the open mouth in the above picture. (Just try to get a picture of him without an open mouth.) We have just learned that he is angling for Sergeant Purdy’s job, having high hopes that Purdy’s retirement is near.

We weren’t quite sure what the alarm was for, but we did see a large swarm of water bugs. Perhaps it was a snack alert?
A single water bug. Sorry it’s blurry, but both the water and the bug were moving, and I had to zoom way in to get this. (See how wide his stance is to spread out his weight?)

(Come to think of it, how much could a water bug weigh? He’s like a water bug Jack Palance, doing one-handed push-ups at the Academy Awards.)

Or perhaps the goose was pointing out the swans. (They have been practicing synchronized diving.)
And here they are, making real progress.
Or maybe the alarm had to do with a surprise visit from a green heron! This new guy hunts from the shore, and is much smaller than the Great Blue Heron. (And he’s not green, that I could see.)
Off he goes! See how he holds his little feet together while he flies? So cute!
Harry didn’t think the green heron was cute at all. He was hunting, sternly, in another lake, while the turtle watched from a safe distance. (See him on the log?)
“Relax,” said Sergeant Purdy. And his troops gratefully obeyed.

Oh, how we will miss our friends at the park! But I have a sneaking suspicion that Sergeant Purdy is right. We need to relax and trust.

Perhaps we will find a new place to explore in Indiana? I bet we will. I have already scoped out several preserves near Fort Wayne, and we hope to explore them before too much longer.

Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might! Don’t forget, the joy of the Lord is our strength. So I pray God’s joy will fill your hearts and minds, my dear friends! Much love!
